This is another tiny fly. I am not sure what family this fly belongs to. I observed this also in late autumn.

I can not identify this phot.

I need wing vien , abdomen & thorax dorsal view for identification family.

I do not collect specimens. This is my only photo of this fly.

I think that the filed identification of flies (or identification based on a photo) is not necessarily more complicated that the identification of other groups, but since many of the species are small , can not be easily conserved and are less spectacular than some of the Coleoptera, Lepidoptera etc... simply there is a lack of knowledge in this respect. Whereever the species are large and spectacular within Diptera (Asilidae, Syrphidae) identification based on characterisitics visible in the field or on a photo are worked out quite quickly. And every group, also Coleoptera and Lepidoptera has very difficult groups with lots of very similar looking species.

There are many traits which are easy to compare but difficult to describe, like the pattern on abdomen, or the general jizz of the animal, which can be very useful in the identification.

This fly is probably a male of Atherigona oryzae Malloch.
